Gingerbread Village - Royal Icing Recipe

Making Gingerbread Houses are tradition that most truly enjoy during the holidays.  At the Festival of Trees, young and old alike can not resist the incredible Gingerbread creations put on display.  More than just sugar plums will dance in your head, as you can view a traditional Gingerbread cottage or a Princess Castle or even a scene from Star Wars.  Every year the most creative and clever decorators design and donate incredible works of art for all of us to enjoy.

We love our Gingerbread creations and we love our Gingerbread Decorators!  If you would like to sign up to decorate and donate a Gingerbread house, please register HERE.

Answer to Facebook and Instagram Question - Volunteers Rock!!

Volunteers are the backbone of the Festival of Trees and are an essential part of the success of Festival.

Last year, it took 2,250 HOSTS to help (just in the Auction areas) during the week of Festival of Trees.  WOW!!!

Hosts help make the Festival of Trees a success by protecting the beautiful trees, wreaths, centerpieces, quilts, and gingerbreads, as well as provide crowd control.  They share the “Festival Spirit” with those who attend. We couldn't have a successful event without our amazing Hosts!

Sign up to be a Volunteer Host HERE.  Read the Volunteer Host Guidelines HERE.

Facebook & Instagram Answer -- New 2017 Fudge Flavor

If you're in the need for an irresistible holiday treat, be sure to stop by the Festival's Sweet Shoppe.  There you'll find delicious confections including divinity, pecan rolls, caramels, dipped chocolates, truffles, caramel apples, cakes and all kinds of breads.

But.... a Festival favorite is the FUDGE.

The first Festival of Trees was 47 years ago and there are 47 flavors of fudge.

A new flavor is released every year.

The just-released flavor is . .

"A quick look from last year --- Fudge, Fudge & more Fudge!!!"

If you want to attempt making delicious fudge at home, see the following recipe.

Festival Fudge (Chocolate)

Ingredients:

    • In a large bowl, combine the following and set aside:
    • 1 package semi sweet chocolate chips
    • 2 squares butter
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla

Method:

Combine the following in a large, heavy pan and cook on stove top until mixture reaches 200 degrees on a candy thermometer:

4 cups sugar 20 large marshmallows 2 small cans of evaporated milk Mixture will be a golden brown color. Stir constantly but do not scrape bottom as mixture sometimes tends to scorch on bottom.

When mixture has reached soft ball stage (200 degrees), pour over chocolate chip mixture. Stir with a large spoon, whipping it well.

Add 1 cup chopped nuts and 2 cups miniature marshmallows. Stir to combine. Pour into 9" x 13" pan that has been coated with butter. Sprinkle finely chopped nuts on top if desired.

Refrigerate until cool. Cut in squares and package as desired. Enjoy!!!
