Festival of Trees - Kid's Korner Bubble Machine

A favorite part of Festival of Trees for lots of children is 

"Kid's Korner."  

Here volunteers help children make crafts, paint fingernails, 

and provide many fun activities for children.

One of Festival's favorite tradition in Kid's Korner, is the 

BUBBLE MACHINE!!!!  

Every year over 3600 children get to climb into the 

very special Bubble Machine and be engulfed 

in a very large and magical bubble!!  

This usually results in smiles and laughter for the 

child and especially those watching.  

It's nearly impossible to keep our Executive Board Members 

out of the Bubble Machine!

The ELF EMPORIUM offers warm bread with jam, butter, peanut butter or cheese & garlic bread.  The delicious bread hits the spot when you're looking for something more filling and savory.

The Elf Emporium also features handmade gifts and games for children.

All of the items for Elf Emporium are designed with children in mind.  

• You can find adorable Felt Items (Felties) filled generously with candy.  

• Home-crafted toys, such as teepees, snowman kits, marshmallow shooters, super hero capes, bows and arrows and etc, are fun to purchase for that special boy or girl.  

• There is a large assortment of novelty treat items. See the Festival of Trees Website for ideas and patterns.

• Warm bread with jam, butter, peanut butter or cheese is also available. 

However, you'll need to go to SANTA LAND for that unforgettable picture with Santa Claus!!

Answer to the Facebook and Instagram Question -- Generous Fine Art Donations

One year, several of Arnold Friberg's pieces of fine art depicting scenes from the Book of Mormon, were donated to the Festival of Trees. 

These were very large, beautiful, numbered, unframed Giclée prints on canvas. The giclée printing process provides better color accuracy than almost any other means of reproduction. A Giclée is a wonderful cost effective alternative and is often indistinguishable from the original painting. The artist personally signs the work after the printing process is done.

What an amazing, generous donation!!!

Arnold Friberg has been commended worldwide for his prolific work in religious and patriotic artwork. Among his signature works are his paintings on the movie "The Ten Commandments," "The Prayer at Valley Forge" and 12 Book of Mormon paintings.

Answer to Facebook and Instagram Question - Festival Ferris Wheel -- "Hearts All Aglow"

One of the most magical parts about the Festival of Trees is the Gingerbread Village.  Every year our Gingerbread Village is filled with incredible works of art that cause young and old to stop and stare in amazement.  Over the years, there have been many different themes, shapes and sizes placed on display.  

In 2016, an operating Ferris Wheel was put on display.  The name of the Ferris Wheel was "Hearts All Aglow" and was decorated by Bill & Raelyn Webster.  While Art students from Bingham High School actually helped design this Ferris Wheel, Bill and Raelyn helped them make it happen.  

The Ferris Wheel was first on display at the South Jordan City Hall in 2014.  In 2015 it was displayed at the South Jordan Library and in 2016 it made it's way to the Festival of Trees!!

Eric Dowdle created a spectacular Stratascape featuring the Festival Trees.
The answer to our trivia question is PENGUINS!!!
Eric hid many PENGUINS throughout the piece
(Penguins are an inside joke for Festival Volunteers).

This Christmas classic is inspired by The Festival of Trees in Salt Lake City.  This is one of Eric’s most detailed and varied paintings because of it’s size—over five feet across. This massive piece was painted on wood and took over 6-months to complete. Each tree tells its own special story and the themes range from the traditional to modern.

Answer to Facebook and Instagram Question - History of the Women's Endowment Committee

The Festival of Trees was inspired 47 years ago by a group of 15 women from along the Wasatch Front.  These women were challenged by Lewis M. Jones, Chairman of the hospital's Men's Endowment board, to identify a way to raise funds for the hospital.

Organized as the Women's Endowment Committee and led by Betty Wells, the group sold tickets to the Ice Capades and dabbled in other projects in an attempt to raise funds.  They soon determined they had spent too much time and energy for too little return.  They searched for one project they could devote all their efforts on.

That project was inspired when Co-chair Ruth Flint vacationed in Hawaii and attended a Christmas boutique featuring small, decorated Christmas trees, centerpieces and Christmas decorations.  The Women's Endowment committee expanded the concept to include full-sized decorated Christmas trees, a gift boutique, and sweet shop.  

Well done ladies!!!!
